Playing Bandon Dunes
Bandon Dunes started the whole resort in 1999, and it made David McLay Kidd's name. Kidd routed it over dunes on bluffs about 100 feet above the Pacific, chasing an honest Scottish links rather than a manicured American resort course. Firm turf, gorse, and wind off the ocean set the terms. From the Black tees it plays 6,732 yards, par 72, rating 73.5 with a slope of 143, proof that a links does not need length to test you.
The whole resort walks. Carts are prohibited except for medical need, so a caddie or your own two feet get you around, and the caddie culture here is as strong as anywhere in the country. That walking-only rule is central to the experience, and the round unfolds at a Scottish pace with the sea always close. The 5th is the stroke-index one hole, a 428-yard par 4 out along the bluffs.
Bandon Dunes remains the anchor of a resort that has grown to several highly rated courses, and it served as the primary course for the 2020 U.S. Amateur. Green fees swing hard by season, from about $130 in the depths of winter to $375 at peak for resort guests, with day guests paying more, and a same-day replay costs roughly half. Five tees run down to the 3,986-yard Royal Blue.

Bandon Dunes FAQ
What does the average golfer shoot at Bandon Dunes?
Across 9 rounds posted by SimplyStroke golfers, the average 18-hole score is 88.1, about +16.1 to par. The lowest posted round is a 84.
Is Bandon Dunes walkable, and can you take a cart?
Bandon Dunes is walking only, as is the entire resort. Golf carts are not available except for a documented medical need, so players either take a caddie or carry their own bag. The resort's caddie program is well established and popular. The links terrain rolls but is not brutally hilly, and the point of the place is to walk it the way you would in Scotland.
How much does it cost to play Bandon Dunes?
Green fees are seasonal. For 2026 they range from about $130 in January and December to $375 at peak from June through September for resort guests, with day guests paying $180 to $425. A same-day replay round costs roughly half the original fee, which makes a second loop tempting. Staying at the resort lowers the green fee compared with visiting for the day.
Who designed Bandon Dunes?
David McLay Kidd designed Bandon Dunes, which opened in May 1999 as the resort's first course. It was the young Scottish architect's breakthrough, and its success launched a golf destination that now spans multiple courses on the southern Oregon coast. Kidd built it as a genuine links, using the natural dunes and letting the wind and firm ground provide the defense.
What is the caddie culture like at Bandon Dunes?
Caddies are central to Bandon Dunes. Because the resort is walking only, many players take a caddie or forecaddie, and the program is one of the largest and most respected in American golf. A good looper reads the coastal wind, finds the run-up angles a links demands, and keeps pace brisk. Booking a caddie when you reserve your round is the recommended approach.
