Torrey Pines South runs 7,802 yards from the Black tees, the longest course used on a regular PGA Tour stop. William F. Bell laid it out in 1957, and Rees Jones toughened it in 2001 and again in 2019. It rates 78.8 with a slope of 148, numbers that would look at home at a private club. Instead, anyone can book a tee time on these San Diego cliffs.
The card asks its hardest question at the 7th, the stroke-index one hole and a 462-yard par 4 that plays into the ocean wind. Tiger Woods won the 2008 U.S. Open here on a broken leg, beating Rocco Mediate in a 19-hole Monday playoff, and Jon Rahm closed out the 2021 U.S. Open on the same greens. Every February the Farmers Insurance Open comes to town.
Five tee sets keep it playable well below tournament length: Brown at 7,015 yards, Green at 6,635, White at 6,145, and Yellow at 5,373. San Diego residents pay far less than visitors, and in 2025 the course stepped in as a late host for the Genesis Invitational after wildfires forced the event out of Los Angeles.
